The Photolink Internet site is provided by Photolink International, an organisation
devoted to supporting education for photography, film & television, worldwide.
The Photolink project began in the mid 1980s as part of a doctoral research project
undertaken at the University of Southampton, England. Its aim was to help Colleges and
Universities find partners for link and exchange programmes and students, courses on which
to study. A number of Europe wide surveys, supported by the European Commission, resulted
in a database of institutions offering courses in this subject area, the most
comprehensive of its kind. Information about courses was first published as a printed
directory and later, as a disk based computer programme. In 1996 the Photolink web site
was launched and today attracts visitors from all over the world.
The aims of the Photolink site are to help potential students looking for a suitable
course of study both full and part time, vocational and leisure, and to provide a valued
and comprehensive resource for both teachers and students.
The many aspects of the site are being continuously developed to ensure it the first port
of call for all those interested in this exciting and rapidly developing subject area.
Photolink International prides itself in an unrivalled knowledge of the provision of
education for photography both in the UK and Europe and as such, provides advice and
guidance to a number of international companies who are interested in promoting their
products and services within this market segment.
As an independent organisation, Photolink International can offer objective advice, either
directly or through the Photolink web site, free from the ties of particular manufacturers
or publishing groups.
